studying with a child

Studying with a child is a challenge. Nevertheless, both can be agreed. To ensure that this succeeds, the Studentenwerk offers you a range of support services:

money

Students who live in a household with one or more children can receive a child benefit supplement of 150 euros per child per month in addition to the usual BAföG benefits. Eligibility exists for children up to the age of 14. The surcharge is paid as a non-repayable grant.

living

You are also welcome with children in our residential complexes. On request, we also offer child-friendly equipment (cot, changing table, high chair, baby food warmers, children’s dishes and other items). The relevant equipment is available from the respective caretaker.

eat

In our catering facilities you will find children’s corners, high chairs and baby changing rooms. This gives you the opportunity to escape the stress of everyday life for a few minutes and to prepare for the other tasks of the day. With the help of the baby food warmers, you can bring the baby food you have brought with you to the right temperature and dine with your offspring.

day care center

To look after your children during lectures and seminars, the Studentenwerk in Cottbus operates the → day care center “Anne Frank” with 125 seats.

In Frankfurt (Oder) there is a cooperation with the → FRÖBEL kindergarten “Oderknirpse” .

family offices

Information and help on reconciling studying and having children as well as questions about family-friendliness are also available from the university family offices.
